Michael Jordan’s Illinois Mansion is For Sale

23 Gates to Michael Jordan's Mansion

The Chicago-area personal residence of NBA legend Michael Jordan is on the market. With an asking price of $29 million, the secluded compound offers more than 56,000 square feet — including a custom-designed, indoor basketball complex. By all standards, it’s a dream home for any basketball fan.

“The entire residence was designed and furnished to Mr. Jordan’s high standards,” said listing broker Katherine Chez Malkin, of the Illinois real estate firm Baird & Warner. “While the residence was built between 1993 and 1995, there was an extensive renovation performed in 2009 to refresh and update many interior living spaces.”

The renovation included a new sky-lit pool pavilion, linking the primary residence with the guest wing. This light-filled space features a retractable electronic canopy, a built-in 110-inch rear-screen projection system, a full-sized bar and telescoping floor-to-ceiling windows on both sides of the expansive room. These windows can be drawn back fully to create an indoor/outdoor entertaining oasis.

The main residence spans three levels and includes nine bedrooms, 15 baths and five fireplaces. The estate also boasts an outdoor kitchen, a putting green, generously appointed guest quarters and three separate, heated multi-car garages.

The “pièce de résistance” of this property is the full-sized regulation basketball court with a separate entry and nearby parking area, an ideal arrangement for weekend games with friends or for special events. Adjacent to the court are locker rooms and showers, as well as a lounge and glass observation area. The court is constructed with cushioned hardwood flooring, adjustable backstops and baskets, and competition-quality high-intensity lighting. A custom sound system contains speakers expressly tuned for the court space.

Nestled on more than seven acres, the property affords its owner the ultimate in privacy, serenity and security. The landscaping is immaculate. Through a custom-designed landscape management program, a team of professionals works year-round to protect the plants and foliage from disease, pests and weather.

A “living” fence of 150 evergreen trees surrounds the property, creating a dense privacy screen. These trees have extensive life support systems. The system includes underdrains for each tree, individualized irrigation and stainless-steel guy wires. The wires protect the large evergreens from damage due to excessive lake-effect winds.

A kidney-shaped pond on thecompound functions just like an aquarium, with a massive recirculation system for filtering the water. The pond is stocked with five species of fish, primarily bluegill, largemouth bass and channel catfish.

A newly refurbished terrace on the property contains an infinity-edge pool, expansive limestone paving, a fireplace and an outdoor kitchen with seating. The area is constructed of rare Valders limestone, which comes from one quarry in the Fond du Lac region of Wisconsin. Valders stone is known for its pure white color and durability.

“This residence has so many premium amenities,” said Katherine Chez Malkin. “It is built with the kind of care and high quality you would expect from a successful athlete, entrepreneur and philanthropist such as Michael Jordan.”
